Testimonials

“We love our new house. The brief to Peter was demanding. Our previous house on the same site was a run down 1941 timber house and structurally unsound. Demolition of that house eventually became our best option. The narrow block with no rear access brought challenges to design, access and construction of the new house. Our goal was an architecturally designed contemporary new house that at the same time respected the surrounding streetscape and neighbours.  With sustainability as an underlying driver, we wanted to re-use of materials from the old house wherever possible and an architectural design that included several features aimed at low on-going maintenance and energy use.

Peter was involved from the initial concept until we moved in. Despite having some fixed ideas about what we wanted, Peter was able talk us around in a few areas and we have no regrets. He communicated regularly and despite a few more unforeseeable challenges along the way, we are delighted with the end result. Our new house looks beautiful, maximises the space, is very functional and has low energy and maintenance requirements. We have been amazed at how stable the temperature and conditions All in all, the end result has well and truly exceeded our expectations.

Many thanks to Peter and CPPD!”

We discovered Craig Perry Pater Dann architects through the Archicentre, following publication of an appealing house plan of theirs in The Age.  During the process of developing a plan for a renovation/extension of our 60’s cream brick veneer home, Craig Perry Peter Dann worked very closely with us, listening to our dreams and ideas, coming to know us and our lifestyle, and developing the concept from brief sketches incorporating our basic ideas right through making the full plans and specifications to supervising the work and  finishing the project. We were totally satisfied with their part in the project and have totally enjoyed living in our “dream home” since its completion.

“Peter - just wanted to let you know that the floor is being polished this week and I plan to move back in on Wed 1st May. I would love for you to drop by and have a look some time. You would be very proud - it is amazing!!

Thanks again for all your wonderful work (the pantry doors are a huge hit!!).”

“We love the house needless to say. It’s done pretty well on the scorching hot days. It stays pretty cool downstairs. It does get warm upstairs but cools down very quickly once a cool change hits with windows and doors open. The ceiling fans also ensure we can sleep on those really hot nights when there’s no cool change. So I have no plans to retro-fit an air-con which pleases me.”

“I first met Peter Dann approximately fifteen years ago. After a disastrous experience with a previous architect who did my restoration in Clifton Hill, I was so wary of architects, and almost decided to just use a builder for another renovation to my new Richmond home. However, after speaking with Archicentre, I was introduced to Peter, who not only restored my faith in the profession, but we went on to start the renovation at my Richmond home. Peter completed the project on time AND on budget. He took on board any issues I had, and calmly resolved each one. Peter also did all the wonderful colour scheme for the renovation, which meant I didn’t have to employ an interior designer. The renovation and colour scheme still look as relevant today as it did back then.

Peter then went on to design an extension to our historic church in Mandurang (near Bendigo), which we were delighted with. Then we were involved again with a block of five apartments (renovating two existing units and Peter’s fantastic design for an additional three units). If Stonnington council had listened to their own town planning department, the project would have been completed within the year, but sadly, no! So after a long drawn out ‘battle’, Peter satisfied all Council and VCAT requirements without compromising the project at all. However, in all of this my health suffered, and we had to walk away, much to my disappointment (and Peter’s as well!). The property was sold along with Peter’s plans, by now fully approved, enabling a great sale price to be achieved. Throughout all of this, Peter was always there, always available, always just being what we know him to be – ‘a true professional’.

We would have no hesitation in highly recommending Peter Dann for any job, from the smallest to the largest, as we know him to be not just a great architect, but a true, honest person.”

Yours sincerely,
M P
